The Hard Way

Rock ClimberThere’s probably a reason it’s the hard way.  It might be the hard way because it takes more effort.  Perhaps it’s the hard way since you’re just not used to it.  Maybe it’s the hard way because it’s frightening.  Or maybe there’s opposition.  Could it be that it sort of breaks unwritten rules?  Or it doesn’t fit with how everyone else or even the whole culture says to go?  Maybe it’s the hard way just because it’s just flat out difficult.

But sometimes the hard way is still the right way.  A good way.

Sometimes it’s the hard way when you have to say no to someone that might get hurt.
Sometimes it’s the hard way when you have to let someone else matter more than you.
Sometimes it’s the hard way when you have to accept that you’re limited.
Sometimes it’s the hard way when you have to fulfill responsibilities when you want something else.
Sometimes it’s the hard way when you have to ask for help.
Sometimes it’s the hard way when you have to go it alone… or at least without a companion right beside you.
Sometimes it’s the hard way when life challenges what you believe about yourself, others, or God.
Sometimes it’s the hard way to believe that you matter.
And sometimes it’s the hard way to pick up a cross, carry it down a road, and hang on it, naked and humiliated as the life bleeds from you.

Sometimes miracles can come from the hard way.
